Merritt R. Sedgwick
10/10/33-07/24/16
Shortly after noon on Sunday, July 24th, 2017, Merritt “Sedg” Sedgwick passed away peacefully of natural causes. He was being visited and comforted by family members in his home that day, and was in his living room at the time of passing. Sedg was 83 years of age.
Sedg was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 10th, 1933, to Arthur Merritt Sedgwick and Euleulia Rohrer. He was the eldest child and is survived by his three younger siblings, Rodney, Peni and Celestia, all of whom still live in Hawaii. He attended the University of Southern California and was a devoted Trojan fan until the day of his passing, as anyone who ever knew Sedg can attest. He spent time in the military, served as a Marine in the Korean War, and his professional career was spent predominantly as a defense contractor for such companies as Logicon and Northrup Grumman. Sedg settled in Southern California for much of his mid-life before occupational obligations relocated him to Utah nearly 20 years ago. Though he loved the warm Hawaiian and Southern California climates, he equally loved his Utah mountains.
Sedg looked after his body like he looked after his tools; he always kept things clean and in good working order. He was an avid runner up until just a few years ago when his body would no longer allow, and he was the consummate handyman around the house. A simple and quiet man by nature, Sedg had a love for Porsches, Australian Shepards, the Catholic church, his work and his family, to whom he was fiercely devoted. He will be desperately missed by all who knew and loved him. Never one to seek any attention or limelight, he may well be slightly uncomfortable even by the lengthiness of these short paragraphs, which in themselves could never do justice to his beautiful legacy.
In addition to his siblings, he is survived by his wife Diane, his daughters Jeanne, Donna and Gabriella, and his sons Christopher, Thomas, Joseph, Phillip and Cameron. We love you Sedg.
A Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 3rd, 2016 at the Newman Center.
