NADINE "NICKIE" (SMITH) PETERS

Born eighty-five years ago on September 4, 1927, Burnett Pat and Mina Martha Newhouse Smith welcomed baby daughter, Nadine, to their Malad, Idaho family. Nadine joined her older siblings Wallace Edgar, Eva Mae and Mina Adrienne. High school activities included roles in drama, a soprano singing voice and band drum/percussionist. She was "Nickie" to friends and family. Nickie met a handsome gentleman from Clifton, Idaho, Elmer "Pete" Peters. They were married September 23, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada and moved to Evanston, Wyoming to establish their business "Pete's Roc-n-Rye" club. They provided a home of love for their only child, Christina ("Trinkie") and a comfortable gathering place for family and friends.

In public service, Nickie assisted in establishing the first Girl Scout troup in Evanston/Uinta County. She served in leadership roles for both the Evanston Fine Arts and Maison clubs, volunteered in programs for prevention of Rheumatic Fever, hospital lab work, and taught craft and art therapy as a Grey Lady at the Wyoming State Hospital.

Privately, it made her happy to help many young people in educational endeavors with gifts of tuition or cash for recognition of hard work and service. Particular joy came in helping both grandsons (Ryan and Ben) with down payments for purchase of their homes, and later an expansion of the family cabin ("The Poore House") in the Uinta Mountains.

On January 22, 2013, Nickie passed from this physical life. As many have said, she was one-of-a-kind in her humor, love and intelligence, Her traits and memories remain with those who survive her: daughter, Christina Peters Poore and son-in-law Ross; treasured grandsons, Ryan Patrick and Benjamin Aaron and their lovely ladies, Cindy and Tiffany; one spunky great grandson Riley Patrick (Riley Pup); and nieces and nephews who were loved by their Aunt Nadine.

There will be no services. Her cremains (and those of Pete's) will be combined and scattered together. When you see 11:11 on your clock, think of Nickie and know that is "loving-loving" time and she is sending you a hug.
