Nancy Jo Kerns

September 13, 1942 — June 21, 2014

Nancy Jo Kerns, 71, of Layton passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014. She was born in Oklahoma City on September 13,, 1942 to the late Zella Huhta and Paul Goode. Nancy graduated from Chief Sealth High School of Seattle, Washington in 1960. Shorty after she met the love of her life Jim Kerns at a local roller skating rink. She surprisingly followed him all the way to Alaska and was wed to him on March 29, 1962 at Fairbanks Air Force Base. Nancy took great pride in being the most splendid home maker, mother and wife. While raising her two boys James and Clint, she made sure to always be there when they got home from school and selflessly put her own priorities behind theirs. Nancy had an eye for detail and creativity. She enjoyed cooking, home decorating, calligraphy, bargain shopping and most of all being a grandma. Being a grandma was what she was best at in life. From crafting at the kitchen table for endless hours to teaching her grandchildren life lessons with a humorous twist, Nancy was the most loving and caring grandmother a child could ask for. One of her greatest characteristics was her loyalty and love for her family. She had a way of bringing the family together, especially around Christmas. Although the garlic bread was always burnt, she flawlessly made every family function special and memorable. Nancy taught her family to love endlessly and enjoy the simplest things life has to offer. The thought of her smile and laugh will forever bring happiness to all those who knew her. Nancy is survived by her husband Jim, her children James and Clint, and daughter-in-law Karla. She is also survived by her six grandchildren Danni, Alex, A.J., Mack, Ben, and Nick, and one great-grandchild, Cooper. She is survived by her sister Brenda Anderson and niece, Gayle Kruger as well. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Sandra (Pittman) and Tony, and her daughter-in-law Melanie.
