Our hearts are saddened at the passing of a beautiful mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Nancy began her new journey June 7, 2013. She was born May 18, 1945, to Joseph DeSalvo and Edith Hart Checkman in Pueblo, Colorado. She is survived by her brother Joe DeSalvo of Rock Springs, Wyoming, 4 children, Dawn, Darryl, Tauna and Darius, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She worked at IRS for 37 years in data conversion, working alongside her best friend Betty. Nancy and Betty were often times referred to as 'Thelma and Louise.' She was a hard worker and a very strong woman who met life head on with integrity, self-worth and compassion. Her many pleasures included accompanying Dawn to work, crocheting blankets, the 'Tazmanian Devil,' shopping at Wal-Mart and of course, her many animals that she adored and loved and would never turn a homeless/needy animal away. She loved to laugh, loved being silly and loved being playful. In times of distress or troubles, she was always there to comfort and aid those in need.
She enjoyed getting out and socializing with her friends, and she enjoyed talking for hours on the phone with her greatest friends Betty and Jean. Jean is a long-time friend since they were 'crazy girl' teenagers, always getting into mischief. What one did not think of the other one did. She loved her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She will be deeply missed by all..
Dear Mom,
You will always be my hero and my true friend.
I love you, Dawn
