Patrick “Ryan” Smith passed away on January 30, 2025, from a Pulmonary Thromboembolism. He was born in Ogden, Utah on February 13, 1978, the son of Kelly Lynn Smith and Debborah Ann Leak Smith. Ryan was the second child born to Kelly and Debborah. He was welcomed into the family by his older brother, Travis, and was later joined by his two sisters, Mikki and Lindsey. Ryan was an Eagle Scout and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a 1996 graduate of Weber High School and loved playing hockey with the Weber High Hockey team.
He had the privilege of serving in the Venezuela Valencia mission where he was able to bring many families and individuals into the church, many who have served in leadership positions in their wards and stakes, who in turn have brought many new members into the Church.
Ryan worked for over 20 years in the Information Technology Industry and obtained a BS Degree in Telecommunications Administration and Information Technology from Weber State University in 2008. He was a technological genius and enjoyed helping others with their computer or technological issues.
Ryan married Holli Thurgood (later divorced) and had the great blessing of bringing two beautiful daughters, Sayler Skye Smith and Gracie Starr Smith into the family. He absolutely adored his girls. He never showed anything but utter love and kindness to them and never spoke an ill word to or about them. They loved to spend their time together playing games, watching movies, teaching/learning how to bake and cook, having baking contests, and anything else they wanted to do. If the girls mentioned they wanted to do something – they did it!
Ryan later married Sarah Noel Brown (later divorced), who loved and continues to love Sayler and Gracie as her own, even today treating them to birthday and holiday get-togethers, phone calls and visits. He also married and divorced Jen Woo and recently married Rebeca Quero.
Ryan was always sweet, kind, thoughtful, loving, fun, respectful and had a brilliant mind. He was always inclusive of everyone and loved to be around people. He was even willing to include his younger sisters and their friends in everything he was doing – not something many brothers would do. As a boy growing up, he was especially close with his Grandpa Dee Leak, his special friend, and loved to spend any and all of his time with him hanging out and talking on their farm in Thatcher-Penrose. One of his highlights was spending time with Grandpa Dee shearing sheep. As an adult he enjoyed taking his girls to Grandma and Grandpa Leak’s to visit, go four-wheeling, or going to see the Indian writings in Penrose.
Some of the many things that Ryan enjoyed doing, and was great at: woodworking, crafting and restoring old furniture, and decorating projects for his home or gifting them to others. He loved to search for, purchase, and give Christmas gifts to all his family members. Whenever asked, he always had ideas for gifts his girls would like for Christmas – he knew them well. He was famous for his witty but nerdy jokes, loved to play games, was a great cook, loved candy and energy drinks, loved to golf, hated to read, loved the color pink, wrote beautiful poetry, loved watching NFL football, loved fantasy football (and was very good at it), loved binge watching TV, loved family get-togethers and visiting and catching up with everyone. Ryan also loved to listen to music, always singing and dancing along. He’d be the star at any 80’s or rock karaoke. He loved to take Sayler and Gracie to any concert he thought they would enjoy, and he’d create his own unique songs to go along with whatever they were doing.
Ryan is survived by his daughters Sayler Skye Smith and Gracie Starr Smith of Plain City, UT; father, Kelly Lynn Smith (Linsey) of North Ogden, UT; mother, Debborah Ann Bair (Kevin) of North Ogden, UT; brothers, Travis Smith (Jean) of Lincolnton, NC, Quinten Smith of North Ogden, UT, Brodie Smith, of St. George, UT, Josh Higgins (Ayla) of Draper, UT; sisters Mikki Lynn Pursel (Kevin) of Ivins, UT, Lindsey Ann Huston (Jeb) of North Ogden, UT and Megan Higgins Jeppsen (Stetson) of Ogden, UT; grandmother Glenna Leak of North Ogden, UT; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins that loved him and enjoyed spending time with him.
He was preceded in death by Grandfathers Dee Odell Leak and Albert “Smitty” Smith, and Grandmother Veda Mae Smith.
In a recent conversation with his mother, Ryan stated his desire to be cremated when his time was finished here on earth. He will be buried next to his Grandpa Dee in the Riverview Cemetery in Tremonton, Utah. In lieu of a funeral, his girls have decided to hold a “Celebration of Life” at 1:00 p.m. on April 19, 2025, at the Ben Lomond Stake Center Bowery located at 3550 North 650 East, North Ogden, UT.
