 Pauline Antoinette Maggio

December 23, 1919 – December 25, 2016

OGDEN--   Pauline Antoinette Maggio died peacefully on Dec. 25, 2016, at the Mountain Ridge Assisted Living facility, her home for the last seven years.

She was born in the small hill town of Camporeale, Italy on Dec. 23, 1919, to Joseph and Josephine Biamonte Maggio, though when questioned about her age, her answer was always the same: “That’s none of your business.”  She had fond memories of time spent at the family’s summer farm, “Guarda Bella,” but never looked back after coming to America as a young girl.

Pauline came to Ogden with her two older sisters, Marie and Faye, in the early 1930s, to be with her father, who with his brothers, Victor and Paul, had already immigrated and become U.S. citizens.  Pauline’s younger brother, Michael and sister, Josephine, came later with their mother (also Josephine), reuniting the family after World War II in Ogden, where they all lived thereafter.

Pauline graduated from St. Joseph’s Grade School and Ogden High School, and worked at the Bon Marche before she married the love of her life Joe, in 1944.  Having the same surname (Maggio) but not the same family tree, Joe and Pauline Maggio-Maggio were happily married for 65 years until Joe’s death in 2009.  For 59 of those years they lived in the house of their dreams at the top of 30th Street, where they raised their daughter and son, JoAnn and Michael, feeding and entertaining good friends and family often.  Bowling, preparing and sharing meals, and facilitating good times were always priorities. And Pauline never missed a chance to ride the “Nun Bus” with Sister Denille and friends to Wendover, being something of a slot machine junkie and kitchen table card shark.  But in the end, and always, it was Pauline’s great joy to be with those she loved; to give them a squeeze and a smile, or even better, share a good laugh.  So many good times with “the life of the party!”  Thank you to all the family and dear friends who helped Pauline keep the party going.  Thank you to all the wonderful people at Mt. Ridge who will miss saying with a wink, “Here comes Trouble!”  Also, Applegate Home Care and Hospice: thank you Tiffany, and all. A special thanks to Dr. Richard Herold, her long-time family physician.

Surviving Pauline are her son, Michael (Patricia), Salt Lake City UT; daughter, JoAnn Bell (Gilham Erickson), Sonoma, CA;  grandchildren, Sarah Maggio, Eugene Oregon and  Bianca Maggio (Joe Plotts), Seattle, WA; one great-granddaughter, Sofia Bronicel; her sister,Josephine Maggio; sister-in-law, Mona Maggio; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded  in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; her sisters, Marie Sacco and Faye Sanders; her brother, Michael; her brothers-in law, Frank Sacco and Lee Sanders; and nephews, Kim Sanders and David Draney.

Funeral Mass will be held, Saturday, January 7, 2016 at 11 am with Rosary prior to mass at 10:30 am at St Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th Street, Ogden, Utah.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah
