Phillip Rivera, 93, passed away October 10, 2014 at Ogden Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Phil was born in Vallecitos, New Mexico May 26, 1921 to Cornelio and Edwign (Chavez) Rivera. He graduated from Gunnison High School in Gunnison, Colorado.
He served in the US Army during WWII from 1942-1945; served in the North Africa and European Theater. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award; earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After returning home to Montrose, Colorado, he married his sweetheart Marjorie Quintana in January 1946. Phil and Margie adopted three children, Angela, Rita and Phllip, Jr.
He retired from Tooele Army Depot after 24 years of service.
Phil enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with his family, brothers, nieces and nephews.
Phil is survived by one daughter, Rita (Michael) Poplardo of Connecticut; one brother, E. Claude (Sharon) Rivera of Clinton; one grandson, Mikey Poplardo; one granddaughter, Katie Poplardo; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Felix; two sisters, Anne Martinez and Mary Fajardo; daughter, Angela and son, Phillip, Jr.
Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11 am at St Maryâs Catholic Church, 4050 S 3900 W , West Haven, Utah. Inurnment at Roy City Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
