Priscilla Jane Burdett

Priscilla Jane Burdett, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2013. She was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma on December 11, 1919 to Clarence and Harriet Steele. She was one of seven children.

She attended the Oklahoma School for the Deaf for her elementary and high school years, and went on to Gallaudet University, from which she graduated in 1941. She married Earl LeRoy Rogerson on August 27, 1941, in El Reno, Oklahoma.

After their marriage, they resided in Virginia, where Earl taught at the Virginia School for the Deaf and she taught at the Hampton School for the Deaf. Terrance, "Terry," was born in Virginia. After one year they moved to Ogden where Richard and Charles were born. Richard passed away from a brain tumor in 1996. Earl taught at the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind.

They moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1950 for Earl to teach at the Arizona School for the Deaf. When Earl passed away on July 21, 1962, Priscilla taught at the same school, until her marriage to Kenneth Charles Burdett on June 19, 1965. They resided thereafter at his home in Ogden. Priscilla taught at the Utah School for the Deaf for some years until Kenneth's retirement from the school. Kenneth passed away in June 29, 2000. Priscilla stayed on in their home until August 2006 when she took up residence at Peachtree Place Assisted Living in West Haven.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses Terry and Vi Rogerson of Phoenix, Arizona, Marian Rogerson of Tucson, Arizona (wife of Richard, deceased), and Chuck and Verlene Rogerson of Riverdale, Utah, and her stepdaughter Jo Ann and Morey Haymond of Liberty and stepson Ronald and Joyanne Burdett of St. George, Utah. An assortment of grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great grandchildren and step great grandchildren will miss their grandmother. She is also survived by her last surviving sibling, Robert Steele of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

She is predeceased by her parents, six of her siblings, husbands, Earl LeRoy Rogerson and Kenneth Charles Burdett, and by her son Richard L. Rogerson; also by her granddaughter Heidi Rogerson.

The family is grateful for the Peachtree Place staff in their care of Prissy, especially in the last few months and for Aubrey Ashby and the team of Hospice Utah who were so kind and loving in their care of Priscilla for over a year. Their service will always be very much appreciated.

A meet and greet / remembrance event will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Aaron's Mortuary,496 24th Street, Ogden, Utah. No funeral services will be held.
