Raymond K. Nyce passed away on September 25, 2016 just a few weeks after being honored by his family with a party celebrating his many years of good health and his 94th birthday. Ray was born in Pennsylvania on September 6, 1922.
He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a scout and cannoneer in the 66th Infantry Black Panther Division. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge in France and Germany and was stationed in Vienna for postwar activities.
Ray returned to Collegeville, PA, where he met and married Lolly (Clara) Perosa. They began their family then moved to Cape Canaveral, Florida, where Ray worked for General Electric, on the nose cones of Atlas, Thor, Titan and Minuteman missiles. He helped build the first fire station in the city of Cape Canaveral and served as president of the volunteer force. He received his BS in Engineering at Rollins College and advanced to Missile Engineer. He later transferred to Grand Forks, San Antonio and finally to Ogden, while continuing his career with GE.
After retirement in Ogden he enjoyed rockhounding and held various offices with the Beehive and Golden Spike Gem and Mineral clubs. Ray is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lolly (Clara) Nyce; sons, Ray Nyce Jr. (Dianne), Tom Nyce (Claire), Steve Nyce; daughter, Terry Phillips (Dave); grandchildren, Kevin (Sarah) Phillips, Lindsay (Chris) Butterfield; and great-grandchildren Jamie and Lela Butterfield. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 4-6 pm , with Military Honors at 5:30 pm, at Aaron's Mortuary, 496 24th Street, Ogden.
