Richard (Dick) Allen Piper, at 95 went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 15, 2023. He was born
during the Depression on November 14, 1927 in Valentine, Nebraska to Herbert and Irene (Richards) Piper. He
left home at 12 to work on a ranch to help support his family. He was a cowboy who respected and loved
horses, cattle and all his well-cared for pets. He joined the Navy at 17 where he proudly served in World War II
as a Seaman on the USS LCI and the USS Egeria, a landing craft repair ship. He started driving trucks to
support competition in the Rodeo Circuit’s Bareback Bronc riding events, which he did for 8 years. Worked as a
heavy haul driver for Bectol Construction Company and built a steel mine in Lander, Wyoming. He came to
Utah to haul cattle for Parnell Green and drove long haul trucks for IML and Overnight Freight for 45 years.
Richard married Lois Housh in 1951 and were blessed with a son, Rich Piper. They settled in Nebraska but Lois
passed as a result of a car accident in 1952. Her loss was heartfelt throughout his life. The last 45 years, he and
Rich grew closer to each other as they both grew older. They built a relationship based on truth, forgiveness and
non-judgmental love. His daily phone calls are missed.
He married RoMona Westover Brinckerhoff and raised two daughters, Donna and Peggy. They moved to Utah
where he believed the weather and mountains were perfect for his family. He was a good Father and provider,
worked extremely hard, loved children, enjoyed life and sharing stories from his past.
He was married for 43 years to Angie Serrano Piper. He loved her children as his own and was so proud of
each, including all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They enjoyed spending time together which
included cooking breakfast, family gatherings, camping and traveling.
Richard is survived by his children, Rich (Laura) Melissa Piper; Aron (Bonnie) Piper; Donna (Tim) Ian Lessley;
Tristan (Makay) Jaxton and Oaklee Lessley; Tyson and Karalee Lessley; Rocky (D’Nache) Alan and Jack Wright;
Jade Ellis (Shannon Richison) Hailee and Hunter Ellis and Austin Richison; Beatrice Martinez (Al) Hansen;
Justin (Holli) Martinez, Arica and Alyssa; Eric (Taryn Saxton) Martinez, Ella, Isaak and Caleb; Alanna (Kurt)
Osborne, Hayley and Cole; Allison (Jeremy) Leone, Olivia & Ivan; Lee (Ernestina) their children José and María
Angélica (Jonny) and his son Danny; Polly (Greg) DesVoignes, Shawn (Shoko) Mae and Noah DesVoignes; Angela
(Wayde) Dominic, Derric, Alexa and Dylan Deatherage; Jessica (Jared) Colby and Landon Thomas.
Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Piper; grandson, Shane Lessley; parents, Herbert and
Irene; brothers, Jim, Don, Terry; sisters, Maxine, Marietta, Virginia, Patricia.
Our family wishes to extend sincere thanks to his Primary Care Dr. Patrick Kendell who always took the time to
listen, his respected friend, Dr. Laurence Nelson and improved quality of life from Dr. Shawn Isaeff. The
extraordinary care given in ER and the Telemetry floor at the Holy Cross Davis Hospital. Special thanks for the
kindness, comfort and expertise from Aspen Ridge Home Health and Hospice; Dr. Jay Moreland, RN’s Pete,
Ashlee & Michelle L, Wendy MSW, Marlee, Michelle S. and Chaplain Drake.
A Combined Celebration of Life and Interment for Dick and Angie will be Saturday, September 23, 2023.
Greeting Family at 11:00am; Service begins 12:00pm at Aaron’s Mortuary, 1050 State St, Clearfield, UT.
Pastor Ernie (Janelle) Green (Christian Life Center Church) will Officiate and minister to the family.
