Robert “Bob” Emilio Perez, also known as Queso, left us on August 17, 2024. He was born on February 17, 1938, in Denver, Colorado, to Edward and Julia Perez. Due to family complications, the family moved to Utah without him. Bob spent his early childhood raised by the State of Colorado in an Orphanage Home for Children. Sadly, he was never adopted. In the early 1950’s, his father went back to Colorado and got him and brought him to Utah to be with his biological family. Robert became known and close to his brothers and sister, especially Edward Perez. As a teenager, he learned to box and became quite good at it. He received the coveted, “Golden Gloves” Boxing Award.
In 1968, he met Vicentita (Shanie) Gallegos. They married in 1970 in Ogden, Utah and moved to Syracuse. Bob began a new life raising Shanie’s six children: Marlene, Simon, Manuel, Prudence, Bernadette, and Tony. Bob adopted all six kids plus Shanie and Bob had two more kids together, Edward & Angelina! Then in the 1980’s Bob adopted Shanie’s nephew, Dallas Gallegos, completing the Perez Family.
Bob enjoyed bowling with his family and friends, he also enjoyed playing the Bass Guitar and played in several bands throughout the years. Playing anything from Mexican Music to Country Western Music. He also was a skilled welder at Tech Steel for many years. Then he went on to be a custodian for the LDS Church, then retired. He ended up being a custodian for Lincoln Elementary (Davis County School District) for many years until he retired. In the 1970’s, Bob was working, but he would answer a call to coach the boys and girls of Syracuse and the surrounding area. For the next 40 years, he had many excellent Teams that went on to win several Championships. Till the day he died, he talked about coaching the kids. He loved teaching skills and teamwork. He was always happy when he ran into the kids he used to coach or was coaching the kids of his past students.
Robert Perez is survived by his kids: Simon & Chris Perez, Manuel & Ronda Perez, Prudence Perez Walker, Bernadette & Doug Moffitt, Edward & Victoria Perez, Angelina Perez, and Dallas Perez. He also has many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren and even Great-Great-Grandchildren. He will be well missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
