Ronald Charles Spindler

October 30, 1946 — June 7, 2022

Together again

Our dad, Ron Spindler, was reunited with his sweetheart on June 7, 2022, after a long battle with COPD. Dad was born on October 30, 1946, the youngest child and only son of Ralph and Margaret Spindler, in Marietta, Ohio. He grew up on the family farm outside of the town. He had many fond memories of growing up in a small town. He loved to play baseball and drive fast; especially in his beloved red 1964 Impala.

He graduated from Marietta high school in 1964 and joined the United States Air Force. Soon after Basic training, he was transferred to Hill AFB. A petite secretary named Mary Ann caught his eye, and they began dating. They wrote each other often when he was then transferred to Johnston Island in the South Pacific. His final station was at Travis AFB in California, where he received his honorable discharge. He returned to Utah to be with his love.

On June 13, 1970, he and Mary Ann were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ogden, UT by Father Neil Herrlich. He graduated from Weber State College with his bachelor’s degree in Business. He lived in Syracuse, Roy and finally Riverdale, UT. He and Mary Ann had three children, Stephanie, Kimberly, and Brian. He was the ultimate family man, rarely missing any sporting events his kids participated in, and even coaching his son in Baseball and refereeing AYSO Soccer. He was an avid fan of NASCAR (#3 forever), football, basketball, and  baseball.

He worked for the State of Utah as a Program Director in the Division of Community and Economic Development. He was able to attend the Paris Air Show over his 35th anniversary with Mary Ann, and during that time they visited family and places in Paris, Germany, and England. He was very involved in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, UT. He retired in 2005 with many friends and fond memories.

Don’t think that he slowed for even one minute. He was often helping his family with various home projects and was the primary caregiver for Mary Ann when she was having back surgeries and ultimately when she was diagnosed with cancer. He was devastated when she preceded him in death in 2016. He and his kids became closer, and he was able to see his youngest granddaughter be born.

Dad is survived by his children, Stephanie (Jason) Sphar (Roy, UT), and Brian (Crystal Young) Spindler (Clinton, UT), his grandchildren, Kaden Wilson, Jean Wilson, Izzy Turley, and Sophie Spindler. He is also survived by his in laws, Steve and Shelia Comeau, and Bill and Patty Comeau, whom he loved and was very close with. He has many nieces and nephews, Jeff Quimby (Marietta, OH), Shirlayne, Kyle, Michelle, Billy, Jeff, and Jen, as well as their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in law (Doc and Grace Comeau), sister (Janet Quimby), daughter (Kimberly), nephew (Vince Comeau), and brother in law (Norm Comeau).

Dad, we all miss you and don’t know what we will do without your stories, wit, and smirk. We are so happy that you are with your sweetheart now and can do everything you want to. We will “see you later” since we never say goodbye in our family. Listen to CCR as loud as you want.

We would like to say a special thank you to Intermountain Hospice, Dr. Bentley McEntire, and nurses Sunni and Laura for the care you were able to provide in his final hours.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date as per dad’s wishes. Please remember who the most important people in your life are and tell them you love them often; We are not guaranteed another breath.
