Roy Edward Marquardt passed from the loving arms of his family to the waiting arms of God on May 27, 2013. Roy was born on August 23, 1931 in Litchfield, Minnesota to Edward and Hulda Marquardt, the only son and youngest of three children. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Lucille Holderman and June Dollerschell. Roy enlisted in the Air Force and was deployed to Korea. He was assigned to be crew chief for his aircraft, the Douglas A26B. At the conclusion of the Korean conflict, Roy eventually settled in Ogden, Utah. He worked as a civilian employee of Hill Air Force base until retiring in 1987 after 34 years of service. Roy married Jean Bodily in 1955. They had four children and settled in a home he built in East Layton. They were later divorced. Roy married LueCille McClellan in 1967. Their family grew by her seven children from a previous marriage. Roy embraced the Catholic faith in 1994 and was an enthusiastic parishioner of Saint Joseph Church in Ogden until he and LueCilIe moved to South Ogden. He then served at the Holy Family parish and was very involved in the construction of the new church. It was his great honor to have served as a Eucharistic Minister at both parishes. Roy was a most capable man. He displayed a true passion for assembling, repairing, and creating. He built a home in East Layton, now owned and occupied by his oldest son, and a cabin in the Hardware Park Mountain Estates, now owned by his youngest stepson, and still enjoyed by family and friends. Roy's family has greatly benefitted from his "do it yourself and do it right" attitude and his willingness to share his knowledge and provide guidance on any project that needed his attention. The work of Roy's tireless hands will be sorely missed, but never forgotten; the evidence is everywhere. In retirement, Roy and LueCilIe enjoyed touring the country in their motor home and volunteering their time to build homes for Habitat for Humanity at sites in the USA and as far abroad as Budapest, Hungary. Roy also volunteered at the Hill Aerospace Museum which provided inspiration for yet another project when several large crates containing the cannibalized remains of a Douglas A26B arrived at the museum. It was the aircraft he knew well from his days in Korea and he was charged with its restoration. The remarkable story of the renovation can be found on his website; http://roysa26invader.wordpress.com
Roy is survived by his wife of 45 years, LueCille; children, Kevin (Rebecca) and Brian(Jane) Marquardt, Sheri Freeman, Deanne (Andy) Smith; 10 grandchildren, 21great grandchildren; step-children, Patti (John) Umscheid; Bob, David (S'Tracy); John (Kayla); Paul, Joseph and Daniel (Tina) McClellan; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.
