Shane Thomas Payne, born in Ogden, Utah on October 22, 1974, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous and enduring battle with Cancer. He was 50 years young.
Shane grew up in Clinton, Utah, and lived a life filled with love, perseverance, and strength. He faced many trials in life but never allowed the word “give up” to be part of his vocabulary. Shane’s resilience, caring nature, and ability to lift up those around him are the hallmarks of his legacy.
Shane met the love of his life, Carma Heinis (Payne), and the two became inseparable. Their relationship started as best friends, and they married in April 2000. Together for 30 years, and married 25, they were truly soulmates.
Shane was a man of many passions. He found peace and joy in the mountains, often saying he was born centuries too late. Whether hunting, riding motorcycles, working on cars and airplanes, or building and repairing firearms. Shane had an unmatched knowledge and skill for the things he loved. He was a gifted mechanic and craftsman, and he spent many years working in automotive repair, most notably at Rocky Mountain Chrysler and later helping his brother, Mike Day, open and run Day’s Advanced Automotive. His work at Hill Air Force Base as a C130 aircraft mechanic was one of his proudest accomplishments, though his heart remained with his hobbies and his family.
Shane had a natural gift for mentoring others. Despite never having children of his own, he became a father figure to many and embraced his role as a “Dad”,” Uncle”, and “Papa” with love and devotion. His stepchildren, grandchildren, and extended family meant the world to him. Shane had a special bond with the kids in his life, including Coryann Carey (Justin Carey), KD Singleton (Eric Singleton), Brian Cunningham Jr. (Hannah), Curtus Cunningham (Christina) Trevin Holbrook (Ali), Rebecca Godwin (Ronald Godwin), Tanner Day, Josie (Jordan) White, and Cody James Wilson. He adored his grandchildren Rykam, Teagan, Kathlynn, Kyson, Sawyer, Skyler, Summer, Tristen, Chalenna, Brinlee, Lane, Jade, Patty, Savana, and Haylee.
Beyond his family, Shane’s compassion extended to everyone he met. He would “throw his shirt off his back” for anyone in need, always ready to lend a hand or a kind word. His love for the community was evident through his volunteer work at the Weber County Shooting Range, and his love for horses and trail rides showed his deep connection to the outdoors.
Shane is survived by his loving wife, Carma Payne; his mother, Roxanne Payne; his sister, Merinda Payne; his sister-in-law, Carina Payne; his father-in-law Charles R. Heinis; his brother-in-law, Corban R. Heinis, Johanna Heinis; and his bonus parents, Joe and Julie Voight, Margerie Day and Patty Jones. He leaves behind many brothers and sisters not by blood: Koahu Kanakaole, Lesley and Brian Cunningham, Mike and Julie Day, and Scotti and Susan Mcfarland. Shane is also survived by niece Halie Payne, nephews Kade Payne and Tristen Black with countless loved ones who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his natural father, Larry Kinslow; his father, Randall R. Payne; his two brothers, Cody Eugene Payne and Travis Alan Payne; his stepson, Cody James Wilson; his mother-in-law, Connie R. Heinis; and his grandparents, Lavera East, Una East, Robert Payne and Velma Payne.
The Family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Eggleston, Dr. Grey, Dr. Danford (Sabrina), Dr. Sessions, and the Wound Care Team for their compassionate care and support through Shane’s journey was made a little easier by their tireless dedication and kindness. We couldn’t have asked for better caregivers, and we are forever thankful for the love and care they provided during his final days.
Shane’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of love, strength, and kindness will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the family to help support Shane’s passions and legacies would be appreciated.
