Shauna Shepherd Martinez peacefully passed away at home, with her loving husband, Julian, at her side, on Saturday March 15, 2025. As she rested in the week prior to her death, her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, family and friends were with her every day, sharing love and memories to the end.
Shauna was born on September 30, 1950, to J. Farrell and Lois Berlin Shepherd. She was the only girl in her family with four brothers. In 1968, Shauna graduated from Bonneville High School. Soon after, she met and fell in love with Julian Martinez. They were married on October 2, 1972, and Shauna gained 15 more Martinez brothers and sisters. On November 18, 1995, Shauna and Julian were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Last October, they celebrated 54 years of marriage. Together they raised their four children, in beautiful North Ogden, where she lived until the end.
Shauna absolutely loved being a wife and mom and raised her children with unconditional love and pride. Her children knew without a doubt that they were her top priority and loved above all. As a family, they made memories of taking family trips, and supporting her children in whatever they were doing, wherever it was. Shauna was everyone’s number one fan. When grandchildren entered the picture, her love grew even more, and she showered them all with love and attention. She’s cheered at baseball, soccer, cheer, basketball, lacrosse, choir, band, piano recitals, dance performances, tennis and football. Shauna loved holidays and decorating the house for them because she knew how excited the grandkids would be. Shauna loved when her family was all together and carrying on family traditions like her Easter pinata. Shauna’s love language was gift giving, she made sure every person in the family had a gift for every holiday to the very end. When she could no longer shop, she sent Julian to do the shopping.
Shauna was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings over the years, many of them with the youth, which she loved. Shauna was a perfect example of charity, quietly always serving others, but never seeking attention.
The family would like to thank the angel providers from Intermountain Hospice. Sunny, Anna-Marie, Heidi and Kristy, who gently helped our sweet mom through these last months and weeks of her life. Also, thanks and love to sisters, Teresa and Chris helping and visiting Shauna and Julian to the end.
Shauna is survived by her adoring husband, Julian; children: Aimee (Ash) Thoman, David (JeNeal) Martinez, Philip (Julie) Martinez, and Jana (Spencer) Arntsen; grandchildren: Nyah Anderson, Bella Conner, Ty Martinez, Tess Thoman, Nash Martinez, Payton Martinez, Zoe Arntsen, Isabel Thoman, Leah Martinez, Saydee Anderson, Addie Arntsen, Oliver Chambers, Harper Thoman, Brynn Martinez, Noah Chambers. and Jude Chambers; also, her brothers: Bruce (Sydnee) Shepherd, Hal (Kjerstin) Shepherd, Kelly (Stacey) Shepherd, and Doug (Jennifer) Shepherd.
