Shirley Ann Callihan passed away on September 16, 2024, due to natural causes. Shirley was born on November 18, 1942, to Clarence and MaryAnn (Flores) McDowell in Yuma, Arizona. She has seven younger siblings: Clarence Jr, Michael, Dennis, Deborah, Scott, John and Melissa.
When she was 12 years old, the family moved to Ogden, Utah. Shirley attended Ogden High School and then became a nursing assistant. She was a natural caregiver who was blessed with a warm, caring heart that drove her not only to take care of her patients, but to really get to know them. Shirley took great pride in her ability to help her patients always look and feel their best. She shared many stories over the years that showed just how much she treasured her experiences with her patients.
In February 1976, Shirley married Jerry W. Callihan. They had one son, Daniel, who was their pride and joy. Oh, how she loved being a mom! She took every opportunity possible to show Jerry and Danny how much she cherished them. She was especially fond of listening to oldies or country music and going for long drives up the canyon, camping and to drive-in movies with her family.
At home, Shirley’s caring nature was on full display as she was often surrounded by nieces and nephews who she taught about music, books, cards, food and family. She was a witty storyteller who kept all the kids entertained with tales of her antics as well as those of her brothers and sisters. Later in life, Shirley became the full-time caregiver for many of those nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and grandchildren who all loved her dearly and who knew that she returned that love unconditionally. Shirley always held a special place in her heart for her nieces Kimmie and Jacque.
Shirley is survived by her son, Daniel M. Callihan (Crystal); six grandchildren: Robert, Braden, Camron and Nevaeh Callihan, Michael Haney and TJ Dawson; four great-grandchildren: Adrian, baby Daniel and Makhi Callihan, and Elija Haney; siblings: Clarence Jr, Michael, Dennis (Valerie), Scott (Kelley), and John (NanCee) McDowell and Melissa True. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; sisters, Deborah Barney and Kimberly McDowell; brother-in-law, Christopher Quintana; niece, Jacqueline Quintana; and sisters-in-law, Freda and Sue McDowell.
