Shirley Peterson Kendell

Shirley P. Kendell of South Ogden passed peacefully with her family by her side on August 17, 2024. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: Arthur Peterson, Margaret Messersmith Danielson and Harvey Danielson; her daughter, Sandra Leydsman; her son, Greg Leydsman; her brother, Dan Peterson; her husband, Max Kendell and his son, Bruce Kendell. 

Shirley was Born on January 17, 1936 in Tooele, Utah. 

Shirley was a cherished member of the Ogden community where she spent the majority of her life. Growing up, Shirley spent time in the Cedar Fort, Utah area with family and grandparents. After graduation from Orem High School, she traveled to New Mexico, Mississippi, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On her return to Utah, she went on to lead a fulfilling career of 25 years as manager of Zales Jewelry Store in Downtown Ogden. She later joined her husband Max Kendell in the management of Kendell Insurance Agency.

Her unwavering devotion and generous soul will be carried forward to her daughters: Sherry (Leydsman) Macfarlane, Shelly (Leydsman) Branz (Leo), Kate Kendell, and Sharon (Kendell) Ellsworth-Nielson (Larry) and sister Jeri (Danielson) Bernardoni (James); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. 

Shirley's passion for gardening was evident through her role as a master gardener; her garden was her place of worship where she found great peace and solace. Shirley found contentment in the soil and joy in the blooms of her well-tended garden. Her home was a haven of natural beauty, where friends and family alike could witness her nurturing touch and love for the outdoors. 

Her home in Utah, adorned with beautiful flowers and frequented by hummingbirds, will always be remembered. Shirley's love for her family was immense, and she found her greatest joy in spending time with them. 

A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at the UINTAH CITY CEMETERY on September 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., located at 1540 E 6450 S, Uintah, Utah. 

This will be followed by a celebration of her life at the Uintah City Park & Scout House at 12:00 noon, 2105 E 6550 S, Ogden, UT 84405.

Wherever Shirley went she spread Joy, Laughter and Love. Shirley's legacy and vibrant spirit will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew her.
