Shirley Pitcher

December 12, 1919 — August 25, 2015

Shirley Merrill Pitcher passed away August 25th, 2015 from causes incident to age. She was 95.
Shirley was the eldest of three children born in Weston, Idaho, December 12, 1919 to Lawrence Wood Merrill and Hannah Elnora Nielsen Merrill.
She graduated from Weston High School in 1937.
She started attending Utah State University where she met Lynn Owen Pitcher.
She and Lynn were married March 21, 1939 in the Logan Temple.
Shirley later graduated from Utah State University in 1941 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Logan, Utah, and in the Weber County School District at North Ogden, Pioneer, and North Park Elementary Schools.
She was a faithful member of the LDS church, a member of the Jackson Center 1st Ward and later, the Uintah 5th, then Spring Canyon Ward. She served in the Primary, Sunday School, Mutual, and Relief Society organizations. She was also an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for many years.
Quoting her personal history:
"Through it all, I had the consistency of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ - it never changed, all else did. How grateful and thankful I am for that, that it was here when I arrived, that my parents taught me about it from the first day of my recollection."
Shirley and her husband, Lynn, had four sons.
She is survived by three of her sons, Scott Pitcher (Syracuse, Utah), Dixon (Darlene) Pitcher (Ogden, Utah), Paul (Aliete) Pitcher (Kaysville, Utah), as well as 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lynn, her son Kirk Pitcher, sister Frances Merrill Bush, brother Lyman Merrill, and a daughter-in-law Kathryn Schmidt Pitcher.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9th 2015 at 9 am at the Spring Canyon LDS Ward building, 6350 South Combe Road in Ogden. Friends and family may call at a viewing at 8:30 am that morning.
Interment will be at the Weston, Idaho cemetery, with her beloved husband, son, parents, brother and sister, maternal grandmother, and forbearers.
