OGDEN a" Sofia Fraga Candia, 87, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, passed away peacefully on August 27th, 2013, with her loving husband and family at her side. Sofia was born to Jesus and Eulalia (Sanchez) Fraga on August 5th, 1926, in Ogden, Utah. Sofia grew up and was schooled in Ogden. She attended to chores along with her siblings on the small farm where she lived, and she also thoroughly loved to dance. During World War II "women at work", she became employed by Union Pacific Railroad and worked the turn tables to line up the rails to guide the engines. One enjoyable story that we loved to hear repeatedly was an incident where she was not able to line up the rail in time and guided an engine down into a pit. She got many laughs from her crew but remained employed. She met the love of her life, Demetrio Candia, shortly after his return from WWII in 1945. They were married on March 20th, 1946, in Ogden, and celebrated 67 wonderful years together. She also worked at Hill Air Force Base as a Quality Assurance Inspector and took a medical retirement in 1976 with 20 years of service. In 1978, Demetrio also retired from Hill Air Force Base, at which time they expanded on their love and were always together. She also directed much of her time and energy to care for her elderly mother with frequent visits and running of errands. Sofia is survived by her devoted husband, Demetrio, and her children, Stephen (Sherry) Candia, Portland, OR; Tony (Karlene) Candia, Loveland CO; and Marisa (Dan) Orosco, Layton, UT. She also leaves behind six brothers and sisters, Henry, Edward, Arthur, Frank, Senorina, and Linda; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; many relatives and very close friends. She was preceded in death by daughter, Teresa; sons, David and Ronald; and granddaughter, Nicole all of Ogden. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 31st, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Aaron's Mortuary, 496 24th Street, Ogden, Utah. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.aaronsmortuary.com.
