Steven Louis Jones

Steven Louis Jones was born November 5, 1963 in Beaumont Texas.  He was born into the loving arms of his parents Theodore Louis Jones Jr. and Laura Geretha Jones.   
On Saturday June 12, 2021 Steve passed away from complications related to ongoing health issues.  He was released from the health restraints and trials of his earthly world into the arms of those that have gone before him.   
Steve was raised in Texas until he was 5 years old when his family moved to Utah.   He lived the last 20 years of his life in Fruit Heights, Utah. 
He married Tina Birks Jones on September 17, 1993 in Woods Cross, Utah.   Steve also served a mission in the Tallahassee Florida Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  
He grew up loving sports and music and played baseball and football through the end of highschool.   He was very musically talented and played in the Davis Highschool Band.  He also played in the Lagoon Marching Band in 1985 where you will still find his picture on the Wall of Fame at the Lagoon Theme Park in Farmington, Utah.    In both bands he played the French Horn and the Tenor Drums.   Throughout the years he continued to enjoy music and played Glen Miller cover shows with the Sunburst Singers.   Steve also had a love for film and photography and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Bachelor Degree in Mass Communications and Film. 
He had a music studio in his home and always loved the process of writing music.  He could sing, play keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars.  He wrote a song for his wife Tina for their 10th wedding anniversary called Forever Friend.  She will always cherish and treasure the love that he put into that song.     
Steve had a talent for drawing also.  It was these talents and skills that he passed along to his children.  His children also wanted to express things they have learned from their Dad.  
*Josh and Steve did not have a relationship that either wanted or needed, it was very strained the majority of time, however they both shared a love for music-particularly 80s Rock Music.  
Josh said "I learned many things throughout my trials with Steve and I'm determined to be who I truly needed growing up.    I work hard everyday to be a better man, husband and father for my children and wife.  The greatest thing I learned from Steve is that he showed me who I never want to be and I strive everyday to break that pattern within my own family.  
*Jeremiah said "Dad taught me to give even when you don't have enough to give.  He taught me that music can save your life and lift your spirits.  He always supported me in following my dreams and going after anything I wanted in life.  He taught me to believe in myself even when it's hard and taught me the power and connection that comes from a good conversation.    He was always there for me when I needed him and I will always love him for that." 
*Ben gained his love of drawing and film from his Dad. He says that "Dad taught me that sometimes you can be nice to random people in lines for restaurants and other places like that.  For example, if we were taking too long to decide on something he would let the person behind us go ahead while we were deciding.  I still sometimes do that to this day.  He also loved my sonic drawings."     

*Jenika says that  "My Dad taught me a lot of things, some good and some bad, but what he taught me truly was unconditional love.   I always knew he loved me.   He was always there, so unconditionally, even if it was just to give me a ride or to bail me out of a bad situation.  He taught me my intricate love for music and how much goes into a song. I could always show him my favorite songs and he would give them all a chance.  He would tell me I was a good singer when I was young and always encouraged me to pursue my goals.  He wasn't always great but was always there.   He taught me how to swim, and how to sing and to love unconditionally like he did."   
 
Steve loved to travel and enjoyed making memories with his family on vacations over the years.  He enjoyed going on long drives to see new places.  One of his favorite memories was a trip to Florida with his family when he was younger.   After he was married with a family of his own they enjoyed trips to Disneyland, Seaworld, Toronto Canada and visiting his Dad in Las Vegas, NV.   In 2018 they enjoyed a cruise to Mexico and he absolutely loved the lobster and shrimp cocktail the cruise had to offer...He always said it was his favorite part of the whole cruise.    Steve also loved going out to dinner and trying new places and foods.  

Steve was not without his struggles in life.   He battled many health problems, however, his mental health was his greatest struggle and challenge.  The last 3 years were especially hard on him and his family.   Due to these struggles Steve and Tina have been separated for the past year as they worked through what both of them needed to heal from the struggles that came along with this illness.   Over the duration of their marriage Tina has learned patience, understanding, unconditional love and most of all resilience.   Even though she loved him dearly and always will, she did have to make the hard choice to leave for the sake of hers and her children's self preservation and safety.    Tina does want to stress the importance of seeking out good mental health care for anyone that is struggling with any issues.  Mental Health affects everyone in one way or another and should always be something of importance in every life.  
Over the last 3 years he also became a double amputee, struggled with diabetes which affected his health and eyesight in enormous ways and also continued to battle/struggle with the demons of his 
mental health.     Steve did have a great love for his family even though he wasn't always successful at showing/giving it in a healthy way.   Although many things may never be understood why or healed in this life or their relationships,  he will be dearly missed.  We know that he is finally at peace and can watch over his loved ones and be their guardian angel now.  
 
2 Nephi 24:3             "And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall give thee rest, from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve"
Revelations 21:4       "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away
Steve is survived by his wife Tina Birks Jones and their 4 children Joshua(Jennifer) Jones, Jerimiah(Jami) Jones, Ben Jones and Jenika Jones.  He also leaves behind 2 beautiful grandchildren Emberlee and Waylon, whom he loved dearly, Parents Ted(Shanty) Jones, Geretha(Robert) Bone and 2 brothers in which he was so proud of, Kenneth(Elizabeth) Jones and Karlou Jones.

 Steve and his family lived in Fruit Heights, Utah for the past 20 years and were blessed with many wonderful neighbors and friends.   They are so grateful for the friendships, help, and love that has been given them over the years.    A special Thank You to all of the Doctors and Nurses that cared for Steve over the years and especially for those at Salt Lake Regional Hospital where he was cared for during the final days of his life. 
Thank you is also extended for the caring manner in which Aarons Mortuary, Ogden Utah...handled the final arrangements for Steve.  
Steve has requested to have no funeral service, however, the family has chosen to hold an Open House for a Remembrance of Steve's life to assist in their healing and final goodbyes and closure. 
They would be honored to have you attend and support and love them in their healing process.    
The Openhouse will be held on July 9, 2021  from 6pm to 9 pm 
(A program from the family will start at 7pm)
