Steven Edward Shurtliff

October 22, 1949 — May 31, 2024

Steven Edward Shurtliff, a resident of South Ogden, Utah, passed away on May 31, 2024. Born in Ogden on October 22, 1949, he lived a life filled with diverse experiences and meaningful connections. 

 

Steven was a graduate of Bonneville High School and later pursued education at Salt Lake Community College, graduating with a degree in English. He enjoyed writing both poetry and prose.

 

He was a dedicated fan of the Grateful Dead and was a collector of classic vinyl records. He was an advocate of the National Park system and visited many of the National Parks in the west in his retirement. He lived in West Weber, South Ogden, Dallas, Texas and lived most of his adult life in Salt Lake City.

 

Steven served an LDS mission in The Netherlands, where he shared his faith and he continued to study the Dutch language throughout his life.

 

Throughout his career, Steven worked in various roles. Notably, he contributed to the shoe departments of major retailers in Dallas and in Utah, including ZCMI. He also worked in the food service industry as both a waiter and in management. He traveled throughout the US opening TGI Friday’s restaurants, training serving staff at many restaurants. He spent several years as caretaker of his parents in their home in South Ogden.

 

Steven is survived by his son, Andrew; two granddaughters, Maddie and Mollie; and two great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his sisters, Eileen Guenther and Dianne Hunt; and brothers, Roy Shurtliff and Lew Shurtliff.

 

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ramona Shurtliff.
