Thomas Merrill Hadley, age 85, passed from this mortal life on Sunday, December 30, 2012. Tom was number 10 of 11 children of John Hipwell and Laura Thurston Hadley, born September 9, 1927 in Sparks, Nevada and raised in Ogden. He loved sports, especially baseball and pitched the game that won the state championship for Ogden High School the year he graduated "1945." Tom joined the Merchant Marines at age 17, serving for 2 years. He then served an LDS mission to Denmark faithfully distributing over 1,000 Books of Mormon. After his mission, he joined the Navel Reserve. While serving aboard the USS Helena, he was honored to participate in bringing President -Elect Dwight D. Eisenhower home from Korea. Tom attended BYU - graduating in 1956 then worked for the next 9 years in the LDS Indian Placement Program. He owned and operated Hadley Ltd Clothing Store in Ogden and recently retired after 30 years from Smith & Edwards. On April 13, 1991 he married "a beautiful lady from Peru," Marina (Betty) Vasquez in the Manti Temple. Together they served an LDS Mission to Norway. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (September 2005); five brothers and three sisters and is survived by one brother, Edward J. Hadley and one sister, Geraldine (Clyde) Williams. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 11 am at the LDS Church at 3254 Polk Ave (1400 east), Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit from 9:30 to 10:45 am prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.aaronsmortuary.com.
