Tina G. Shelstead, also known as Tinay, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on September 15, 1963, in Yankton, South Dakota, the daughter of Barbara and Tony Bryan. Tina was known for her roles as mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Tina grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where she was known as one of the 5 T’s. She graduated from high school in Edgemont, South Dakota in 1981. She had a passion for 4H, art, and horses. She furthered her education by attending secretarial school, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She traveled many places as a military spouse. Tina lived in New Mexico, California, Nevada, Utah, and in Japan. She enjoyed traveling, experiencing new places and cultures.
She worked as an ESL teacher for many years and a Cheerleading and Drill Coach while her children were young, later she moved on to new opportunities.
Tina is survived by her three children: Carrie Shelstead Avendano and her husband Jorge Avendano-Platas, Jamie Firkus and her husband Justin Firkus, Micaiah Shelstead; and her 5 grandchildren: Amariah, Aedan, Jozaiah, Aeriss, and Aella. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In honor of Tina's wishes, no formal services will be held.
