Velma Stromberg Ahlstrom

July 27, 1937 — March 23, 2025

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Velma Stromberg Ahlstrom, of Huntsville, Utah, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025. She was born on July 27, 1937, in Huntsville, Utah, to Oscar Sidney Stromberg and Mildred M. Stromberg.

Velma grew up in Huntsville in a loving home with her four siblings Jay, Joy, Sheryl and Lois. She attended Valley Elementary and graduated from Weber High School in 1955. On September 9, 1955, she married her sweetheart, Gary W. Ahlstrom, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They loved to travel and lived in California and Hawaii before returning back to Huntsville to raise their family. Velma and Gary were devoted to each other, and it brings us joy to know that after an 18-year separation they are together again. Their love for each other has blessed their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Velma loved Huntsville town and was active in supporting the community throughout her life. She volunteered at the annual Independence Day Celebrations, the Huntsville marathon, worked on a regular basis at the town history museum and gave tours of the Aldous cabin. She loved sharing her knowledge of local history with others. She also supported her community through various church callings including in the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society.

She loved quilting and the time spent quilting with friends. She was able to make a quilt for each of her grandchildren to give as a wedding gift. She cherished time with her family at holidays, especially the Fourth of July, Christmas, and autumn leaf raking parties. She was an ardent fan of the Utah Jazz.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Bruce (Stephanie) Ahlstrom, Brent (Gail) Ahlstrom, David (Annette) Ahlstrom, and Margo Ahlstrom Rhees; her 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and her sister, Lois.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; her parents; three siblings; and her great-great-granddaughter, Marina.

The family would like to thank Atlas Hospice (Shannon and Sydney) and Sunridge Assisted Living for the kindness and compassion they showed to Velma in her final months.

A funeral service will be held on April 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Huntsville 1st Ward on 277 South 7400 East in Huntsville, Utah.
