Vincent (Vince) Rae Winans, age 70, of North Ogden, UT, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at his home surrounded by his wife and son.
Vincent was born November 9, 1953, in Washington, D.C. to Charles R. Winans and Betty J. (Rosch) King. He was the oldest of three children. Vince graduated from Staunton High School (Indiana) and attended Indiana State University. He spent the majority of his career in the automotive and advertising industries.
Vince married Julie Ann Brown of McCook, NE on May 24, 2003, at the Decatur Wesleyan Church in Decatur, IN. Upon moving to North Ogden, Vince attended the Valley View Baptist Church; prior to that he was a member of the Rosewood Lane Church of the Nazarene.
Music, especially acapella singing, was the wind beneath Vince’s wings. At the age of 17, he found the world of Barbershop Harmony (formerly SPEBSQSA) and enjoyed singing with several choruses and quartets over the years. He earned two 5th Place medals in the International Chorus Contest (Louisville Thoroughbreds – 1999 and Midwest Vocal Express – 2005), placed Top Twenty in the International Quartet Contest (The Exchange – 2003), and won two Cardinal District Championships (Inside Track – 1996 and Wabash Avenue – 1998). Most notably, he traveled with the Banks of the Wabash (BOW) Chorus to perform in Japan and England and traveled the continental United States entertaining audiences with the Music Mart Quartet. Vince enjoyed the art of singing and would share it with anyone he could. He recently achieved his 50-year pin of singing with the society.
If Vince loved anything more than music, it was people and the memories he created with them. He never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest. He always had a joke or quip at the ready to make people smile and basked in being the life of the party. To say he maximized his time here is a significant understatement. He thrived off getting together with friends and connecting with people. Parties, cookouts, sporting events, campouts, dinners – the reason and the venue didn’t matter, the connection with people did. This is evident in the strong relationships he developed with his loving family and devoted friends, as well as the endless stories of their escapades throughout the years.
Vincent is survived by his wife, Julie, of North Ogden, UT; his son, Adam (Lindley) Winans, of Noblesville IN; sister, Pamela Hollingsworth, of Ocala, Florida; granddaughters, Adeline Mae and Kendall Ann Winans; and niece Jamie Baird. Vincent is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Winans.
A memorial service will be held on March 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Valley View Baptist Church, 2712 N Washington Blvd, North Ogden, Utah 84414. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages and appreciates a monetary donation to the Harmony Foundation to keep the melody ringing in the hearts of youth everywhere. Online donations can be made at the following link: www.harmonyfoundation.org/memorial-giving.
Additionally, a celebration of life will be held for all friends and loved ones at the Sycamore Country Club in Terre Haute, IN on April 20 (200 Heritage Dr, Terre Haute, IN 47803). Additional details will be provided at a later time.
While we’ll remember Vince forever and the many fond memories created with him, it’s not goodbye forever. It’s only a matter of time “Till We Meet Again” with Mr. Bass Man, see his smile, hear his laugh, and be entertained by his one-of-a-kind deep voice.
