Virginia Butterfield Kovach

Virginia Butterfield Beatty Kovach grew up a city girl, born 9 June1921 in Detroit, Michigan, to Edmund William Beatty & Theresa Butterfield. On the afternoon of January 1st, 2016, due to causes incident to age, she joined her husband & forever love, Alexander Kovach, & son Joseph Alexander Kovach, who both preceded her. Al continued to show his love for her & family even from the other side on several occasions. Surviving are her daughters, Kitty & Judith Kovach; grandchildren David, Alexis, & Jesse Kovach; & great grandchildren Janika & Jaiden.

   Virginia served as a WAC JAG Lt. in Texas during WWII & met her future husband there. After the war, she attended college on the GI Bill &, as a child of the Great Depression, took a practical major in economics from the University of Michigan. She returned to college years later to earn her Masters in Library Science, a subject closer to her heart, from Shippensburg University in 1973. This interest was 1st sparked when working on genealogical data passed on to her by her grandfather, George William Beatty. As she ordered microfilm & visited grave sites, she desired further knowledge of proper research & documentation. She has now rejoined many grateful ancestors. She enjoyed being a librarian at the Army War College in Pennsylvania & at Ft. Bragg, NC. Intelligent & always interested in new ideas, she also worked as a computer programer in the 1960’s at Ft. Dix, NJ. Thereafter, she was always comfortable on a computer.

   Virginia greatly enjoyed traveling the world with her military husband. She was the family tour guide & history teacher through Asia & Europe as the family accompanied Al on his assignments in Japan, Italy, Taiwan, & various states within the US. Pleasant & sociable, she made friends everywhere & maintained many over the years from childhood & beyond. She will be missed.
