Wayne H Castle

Big Wayne" H. Castle passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday night with his cats beside him.

Wayne was born 13 May, 1923 in Inglewood, California to Elizabeth Merle and Wayne H. Castle Sr.. He was educated at Manual Arts High School, where he met his lifelong love Evelyn LaVon Stone. They married October 3rd, 1943 and remained blissfully wed until Evelyn passed away in 2006.

Wayne joined the Navy in 1941 and served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. An aviation hull mechanic, Wayne was advanced as one of the first Master Chief Aircraft Maintenancemen. Over his 29 year career, he was stationed on many bases in California, including San Diego and Monterey, China Lake and Pt. Mugu, but also in Oceana, VA, and Barber's Point, Hawaii. His squadrons were attached to great ships such as the USS Enterprise, the USS Independence, and the USS Essex. After his Naval retirement, Wayne worked for Northrup Co. in Shiraz, Iran and Taif, Saudi Arabia. Later, Wayne had a 20 year career at Hill AFB.

Wayne was a member of the LDS church. He loved fishing with his grandkids, fine foods and fine art, Japanese culture, traveling and history, and he excelled at photography. His photos won awards in the Ogden Color Camera Club. He studied the Japanese language at Weber State College.

Wayne is survived by his son, David Castle (Susanne) and his daughter, Margaret Clayton (Howard). He was predeceased by his wife ,Evelyn LaVon; his sons, Wayne H. Castle (Sue) and Lawrence A. Castle (Sarah). He has 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Fair winds and following seas, Masterchief, Aloha Oe, we love you dearly and will miss you forever.

A memorial service will be held at Aaron's Mortuary, 1600 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT on Tuesday, 27 July at 11:00 a.m. followed by a potluck in Margaret's backyard. In lieu of flowers please donate to Disabled Veterans Association or the Humane Society. Cremation under the direction of Aaron's Mortuary and Crematory of Ogden.
