William Thomas "but don't call me Grandpa" Haddan, passed away on September 23rd surrounded by those that loved him. Tom had a complex mind suited for many talents, but his passion seemed to lead him to transportation.
He was the ultimate businessman; constantly focused on booking the next load and working the next deal. While he never quite made his fortune, his tenacity was inspiring.
If there was one thing "Papa Tom" loved more than his business, it was his grandbabies. The demons he fought and the obstacles he faced ceased to exist when they were around. He was lucky enough to have spent time with all four kids this summer; a gift Oliver, Jasper, Truman, and Clementine will cherish.
Tom is survived by his partner, both professionally and personally, Sue Hiskey. Sue managed to stand by him for over 30 years, even when the rest of us couldn't put up with his antics. I think Tom would agree that she deserves a medal! He considered Michelle family and loved her and Ashley and Ethan unconditionally.
Perhaps closest to his heart, were his girls, Lori and Missy. While relationships were often strained, that Haddan tenacity reared its head and the phone would ring every Sunday morning....calling, "just to see how you's doin'". Sunday mornings will never be the same.
Today, Tom is sitting by the side of the ocean, breathing deeply and painting his masterpiece. He'll be missed by the ones he left behind, but he's also finally free of the worldly things that haunted him.
Keep on truckin' Old Man.
